Sri Lanka Inflation Rate at 3-Month Low
Inflation rate in Sri Lanka decreased to 4.4 percent in November of 2019, from 5.4 percent in the previous month. It was the lowest rate of inflation since August, as cost slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.6 percent vs 6.8 percent in October) and non-food products (4.2 percent vs 4.8 percent). Among non-food, prices advanced at a softer pace for housing & utilities (2.6 percent vs 2.9 percent); furniture & household equipment (5.4 percent vs 5.7 percent) and health (2.2 percent vs 12.7 percent). In contrast, transport cost increased faster (2.7 percent vs 1.2 percent) while inflation was steady for restaurants & hotels (at 2.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, after rising 0.2 percent in October.

Sri Lanka Inflation Rate at Over 1-Year High
Annual inflation rate in Sri Lanka increased to 5.4 percent in October of 2019, from 5.0 percent in the previous month. It was the highest rate since August 2018, as food and non-alcoholic beverages cost advanced faster (6.8 percent vs 3.0 percent in September). On the other hand, non-food products prices slowed (4.8 percent vs 5.7 percent), particularly housing & utilities (2.9 percent vs 3.9 percent); transport (1.2 percent vs 4.4 percent) and restaurants & hotels (2.9 percent vs 3.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent, slowing from a 0.8 percent increase in the previous month.

Sri Lanka Inflation Rate Highest in 4 Months
Annual inflation rate in Sri Lanka increased to 5.0 percent in September of 2019 from 3.4 percent in the previous month. It was the highest rate in four months, as food & non-alcoholic beverages prices rebounded (3.0 percent vs -2.8 percent in August). On the other hand, non-food cost increased at a softer pace (5.7 percent vs 6.2 percent), particularly transport (4.4 percent vs 6.9 percent) and restaurants & hotels (3.4 percent vs 4.8 percent) while inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 3.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged rose 0.8 percent, following a 0.1 percent increase in the prior month.

Sri Lanka Inflation Rate Ticks Up to 3.4% in August
Inflation rate in Sri Lanka rose to 3.4 percent year-on-year in August of 2019, up from a 3.3 percent increase in the previous month, as non-food prices rose faster (6.2 percent vs 5.9 percent in July). Among non-food, cost grew for housing & utilities (3.9 percent vs 3.8 percent); transport (6.9 percent vs 5.4 percent); clothing & footwear (8.8 percent vs 8.2 percent) and recreation & culture (5.4 percent vs 3.6 percent). Meanwhile, food and non-alcoholic beverages cost dropped further (-2.8 percent vs -2.6 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.1 percent, rebounding from a 0.2 percent drop in the prior month.

Inflation rate in Sri Lanka decreased to 3.8 percent in June of 2019, from 5.0 percent in the previous month. It was the smallest rate of inflation since January, as food & non-alcoholic beverages cost fell (-1.0 percent vs 0.8 percent in May) while prices went up at softer pace for non-food products (6.0 percent vs 6.8 percent). Among non-food, cost slowed for housing & utilities (3.3 percent vs 3.9 percent); transport (5.3 percent vs 9.3 percent); restaurants & hotels (7.7 percent vs 10 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (15.2 percent vs 15.5 percent). In contrast, prices advanced faster for clothing & footwear (8.4 percent vs 7.8 percent) and health (13.6 percent vs 12.5 percent) while inflation was steady for furniture & household equipment (at 6.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.9 percent, easing from a 1.6 percent increase in May.

Annual inflation rate in Sri Lanka increased to 5.0 percent in May of 2019, from 4.5 percent in the previous month. It was the highest rate since August 2018, as food and non-alcoholic beverages cost rebounded (0.8 percent vs -0.9 percent in April) while inflation was steady for non-food products (at 6.8 percent). Among non-food, cost grew faster for restaurants & hotels (10 percent vs 7.2 percent); recreation & culture (3.6 percent vs 3.2 percent); furniture & household equipment (6.4 percent vs 6.2 percent) and for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (15.5 percent vs 15 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for housing & utilities (3.9 percent vs 4.5 percent); transport (9.3 percent vs 10.6 percent) and clothing & footwear (7.8 percent vs 9.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.6 percent, accelerating from a 0.3 percent increase in April.
