Brunei Consumer Prices Drop for 9th Month
Consumer prices in Brunei declined by 0.3 percent year-on-year in October of 2019, the ninth straight month of drop, after a 0.4 percent fall in the prior month. Prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages fell 0.7 percent year-on-year in October, compared to a 1 drop in September, mainly due to rice and cereals (-3.3%) and fish and seafood (-1%). Also, falls were seen in cost of both transport (-3.7% vs -3.7%) and housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels(-1.7% vs -1%). In addition, prices slowed for both health (0.6% vs 0.9%) and recreation & culture (1.7% vs 2.5%). In contrast, cost of restaurants & hotels rose faster (5% vs 4.7%), while those of furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance rebounded (1.2% vs -1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1 percent in October, following a 0.7 percent gain in September.

Brunei Consumer Prices Fall for 8th Month
Consumer prices in Brunei declined by 0.4 percent year-on-year in September of 2019, the eighth straight month of drop, after a 0.8 percent fall in the prior month. Prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages fell 1 percent year-on-year in September, compared to a 1.2 fall in August, mainly due to rice and cereals (-2.7%) and milk, dairy products and eggs (-1.9%). Also, there were falls in cost of transport (-3.7% vs -3.5%), housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels(-1% vs -2%), and furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (-1% vs -1.3%). At the same time, cost slowed a bit for both health (0.9% vs 1%) and recreation & culture (2.5% vs 2.6%). Meanwhile, prices rose slightly faster for restaurants & hotels (4.7% vs 4.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.7 percent in September, following a 0.3 percent fall in August.

Consumer prices in Brunei declined by 0.8 percent year-on-year in August 2019, the eighth straight month of drop, after a 0.5 percent fall in the prior month. Prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages fell 1.2 percent year-on-year in August, steeper than a 0.6 in July, mainly due to rice and cereals (2.8%), meat (1.1%) and fish & seafood (1.7%). Also, there were decreases in cost of transport (-3.5% vs -4.2%), housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels(-2% vs -2%), miscellaneous goods & services (-0.7% vs 0.1%), furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (-1.3% vs -0.9%), and clothing & footwear (-6.2% vs -0.7%). At the same time, cost slowed a bit for both restaurants & hotels (4.6% vs 4.7%) and recreation & culture (2.6% vs 2.7%). Meanwhile, inflation was unchanged for health (at 1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased 0.3 percent in August, following a 0.5 percent rise in July.

Brunei Consumer Prices Fall for 5th Month
Consumer prices in Brunei declined by 0.6 percent year-on-year in May 2019, much faster than a 0.1 percent drop in the previous month. This was the fifth straight month of fall in consumer prices, amid further declines in cost of food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.7 percent vs -0.6 percent in April); housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels (-2.7 pct vs the same as percent in a month earlier); transport (-0.2 percent vs 1.2 percent); furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (-1.2 pct vs -0.6 percent); and clothing & footwear (-6.1 percent vs -2.9 percent). In contrast, recreation & culture inflation was unchanged (at 2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent in May, after a 0.6 percent decrease in April.

Brunei Consumer Prices Fall for 4th Month
Consumer prices in Brunei declined by 0.1 percent year-on-year in April 2019, twice faster than a 0.05 percent drop in the previous month. This was the fourth straight month of fall in consumer prices, amid further declines in cost of housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels (-2.7 pct vs -3.3 percent in March); food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.6 percent vs -0.5 percent); clothing & footwear (-2.9 percent vs -0.2 percent); and furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (-0.6 pct vs -0.3 percent). In addition, recreation & culture inflation eased (2 percent vs 2.6 percent). Meanwhile, transport prices picked up ((1.2 pct vs 0.6 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.6 percent in April, the first monthly fall in three months, following a 0.2 percent gain in March.

Brunei Consumer Prices Fall for 3rd Month
Consumer prices in Brunei declined by 0.05 percent year-on-year in March 2019, slowing from a 0.2 percent drop in the previous month and marking the third straight month of fall. Cost of food & non-alcoholic beverages fell by 0.5 percent, much softer than a 0.9 percent drop in February. Meanwhile, cost picked up for both transport ((0.6 pct vs 0.1 percent) and recreation & culture (2.6 percent vs 1.6 percent). At the same time, prices continued to drop for housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels (-3.3 pct vs -0.7 percent); furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (-0.3 pct vs -0.7 percent); and clothing & footwear (-0.2 percent vs 0.7 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.5 percent in March, following a 0.2 percent gain in February.
