Bulgaria Posts Widest Trade Surplus since 2017
Bulgaria recorded a trade surplus of BGN 104.5 million in June 2019 compared to a BGN 281.5 million gap a year earlier. This was the largest trade surplus since September 2017, as imports slipped 13.6 percent to BGN 4,419.9 million, dragged down by lower purchases from non-EU countries (-30.6 percent) and the EU (-3.5 percent). Meanwhile, exports decreased at a softer 6.4 percent to BGN 4,524.4 million, as sales to the EU and non-EU countries fell 3.6 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively. In the first six months of the year, the country's trade gap narrowed to BGN 579.2 million from BGN 2,201.5 million, as shipments surged 6.3 percent and imports grew only 0.7 percent.

Bulgaria Trade Gap Narrows 50% YoY in April
Bulgaria's trade deficit shrank significantly to BGN 186.3 million in April 2019 from BGN 373.2 million in the same month a year ago. Exports rose 6.1 percent to GBN 4496.7 million, as sales to the EU countries grew 8.2 percent to BGN 3136.7 million and those to non-EU increased 1.7 percent to BGN 1360 million. Meantime, imports increased at a softer 1.6 percent to BGN 4683 million, as purchases from non-EU countries fell 14.3 percent to BGN 1382 million while those from the EU countries advanced 10.1 percent to BGN 3301 million.

Bulgaria Trade Deficit Narrows in March
Bulgaria's trade deficit narrowed to BGN 61.4 million in March 2019 from BGN 253.1 million in the same month a year earlier, as exports climbed 5 percent to BGN 4.73 billion, with sales to the EU rising 2.8 percent and those to non-EU countries jumping 10.4 percent. Meanwhile, imports increased at a slower 0.8 percent to BGN 4.79 billion, as a 7.6 percent surge in purchases from non-EU countries was enough to offset a 2 percent fall in imports from the EU. Considering the first quarter as a whole, the trade deficit narrowed to BGN 264.6 million from BGN 890.2 million in the same period of 2018.

Bulgaria Trade Gap Narrows 49% YoY in February
Bulgaria's trade deficit shrank significantly to BGN 178 million in February 2019 from BGN 351.8 million in the same month a year ago. Exports rose 18.9 percent to GBN 4643.2 million, as sales to non-EU countries grew 23 percent to BGN 1480.3 million and those to the EU increased 17.1 percent BGN 3162.9 million. Meantime, imports increased at a softer 13.3 percent to BGN 4821.2 million, as purchases from non-EU countries went up 15.8 percent to BGN 1753.5 million while those from the EU countries advanced 11.9 percent to BGN 3067.7 million.

Bulgaria Trade Gap Narrows 66% YoY in January
Bulgaria's trade deficit shrank significantly to BGN 97.1 million in January 2019 from BGN 285.3 million in the same month a year ago. Exports rose 3.8 percent to GBN 4558.3 million, as sales to non-EU countries grew 7.5 percent to BGN 1394.2 million and those to the EU increased 2.2 percent o BGN 3164.1 million. Meantime, imports dropped 0.5 percent to BGN 4655.4 million, as purchases from the EU decreased 5.7 percent to BGN 2839.7 million while the ones from non-EU countries advanced 8.9 percent to BGN 1815.7 million.

Bulgaria Trade Gap Narrows 37.6% YoY in December
Bulgaria's trade deficit decreased to BGN 435.6 million in December of 2018 from BGN 697.8 million in the same month a year ago. Imports declined at a faster 7.4 percent to BGN 4591.3 million, as purchases from non-EU countries fell 10.9 percent to BGN 1684.2 million and those from the EU decreased 5.2 percent to BGN 2906.1 million. Meantime, exports went down 2.4 percent to BGN 4154.7 million, led by a 14.6 percent decline to BGN 1488.6 million in sales to non-EU countries while the ones to the EU rose 6 percent to BGN 2666.1 million. Considering the full year of 2018, the country's trade gap widened sharply to BGN 3256.3 million from BGN 501.6 million in the same period of 2017.
